NORFOLK ISLAND

Hey Everyone

On the spur of the moment we decided to take a week's break before Greg starts his new job, so we took ourselves off to Norfolk Island. This was our first break away in thirty years ... just the two of us! Here's some photos for you.

This is a photo of Quality Row. This is where the officers and First Engineers and Commandants lived at Norfolk during the Convict Settlements. This is a back view looking out to Government House and the Pacific Ocean.

Here's ME. This photo is taken at Mt Pitt looking over the Airport and ocean.

This gorgeous bay is called Anson Bay. It was a bit of a hike down but we made it there and back. It looks very pretty but is acutally quite a dangerous beach.

Here's our accommodation ..... only jokin ... it's a workers cottage from the convict era

This was our accommodation ... Whispering Pines .. it was just delightful ... it looked down this beautiful valley full of Norfolk Island Pines out to the ocean.

Here's me and the view from the cabin.

Now a couple of times a year a cruise ship comes in. There is no safe harbour or no pier so passengers are loaded off the ship on to small boats and ferried ashore. Unfortunately it was too rough this day so the ship just sailed around the island ... spectacular to see. It came so close to the reef and I was worried that it would run aground.

Here's my DH,  Greg. This photo is taken from the point overlooking the coast where Captain Cook first landed back in 1760 ... I think!! The water here is absolutely crystal clear. The actually point of his landing is behind my back but this is on the point overlooking in the other direction!!

This little cove in between the rocks here is where they think he first landed. He thought that all the pine trees would make fabulous masts for the ships, but the Norfolk Pine was too soft.

And finallly ... just the two of us at Two Chimneys Winery enjoying a cheese platter for lunch with a couple of glasses of Verdelho. A very expensive lunch I might add but it was our last day and we enjoyed it.

Hope you enjoyed this photos Kerrie! :)
